Our Labor of Love begins

Bill arrived this morning to pick up his skid loader. He and Shawn finished the first row and he gave us last minute instructions. There are a lot of tedious details to keep in mind.

First, you start by building the corners, and work your way to the middle, where there will be a common seam. Each corner block, plus one block on each side of the corner needs to be glued using a polyurethane foam adhesive. So we did that. This block only has 90 degree corner available, and we have one corner at a 60 degree and another at about a 45 degree, so we have to make those by cutting straight block at an angle. This part was time consuming. After you have the block laid down, we have to use 36" long zip ties to tie the corner blocks onto the adjacent blocks on each side. The next step is to then lay the horizontal rebar.

We were working on laying the second row of blocks when we noticed an area that we had forgotten to place the horizontal rebar on the first row. We were lucky that Shawn caught this error, as we were able to slip in the rebar.

We did most of the work while Evan napped, but we got the second row almost done. Shawn went to lowes to buy the wood that we need to make the window bucks. We can't continue with the block until we have the bucks finished.
