We've hit out first snag.

The excavator made a mistake on digging the frost walls for the garage, so the house will now be shifted 6 inches. Perhaps that's not bad, but I can't say that we're happy about it, since we had the living room view aligned for the back wall. Also, Bill, our basement guy, thinks that there was an old leach field in the spot we're building and a lot of sand. He was concerned that the footings we had were not big enough now, so after a few phone calls, we've decided to go with bigger footings. 24" by 10" deep. The contractor said that they don't often compact the soil, but Shawn and I decided that we want this done regardless, so they will be compacting underneath the footings as well. Adds extra cost, but we only get one shot at doing this and we want to have it done right.

Here's Evan enjoying the excavation work again.
